He covers the basic gi side mount escape, then the spinout (which I’ve tried and works if you get your timing right) and going to the knees and getting a triangle which is pretty neat.

So Dean starts from his back on the mats, with his opponent (Jimmy) in his guard. Dean then shows us how to move your body properly to do the triangle properly so you don’t get slammed, stacked, punched and you can pull off an arm-lock from that angle (with his feet crossed).

NOTE: Some people actually teach not to cross your feet, but it looks alright from this position. I was told that what you are on top doing an arm bar, when you cross your feet, you lose power in keeping your thighs tight against your opponents arms.

This is a demonstration from Werneck Jiu Jitsu Academy open house in Sacramento, California, in 2003. Five minutes before the open house started, Cassio Werneck asked Tyrone Glover and Derek DiManno to perform an impromptu demo. The techniques included some of their favorite tournament techniques.

Also, since George St. Pierre (14-2-0) is fighting at Matt Hughes (41-5-0) at UFC® 79 Nemesis, why not get him to show a demo?

So George starts in the mount position, he keeps his upper body low and works his knee’s up under his opponents armpit and goes directly into the S-mount. Then George holds his opponents head up as he drives his left foot under the opponents head. This makes it very tight and very hard for the opponent to get out. From this position, George can choke out his opponent, and the only way his opponent can get out his by pushing him back. Which results in Rush taking his arm and leaning forward for the armbar. George mentions that leaning back will be a mistake and you should lean forward to finish the submission because the gravity is causing the joint to go down and as a result he gets a tap.

Hey guys, I just want to say thanks for visiting. I initially wanted to create a blog like this a few years ago but never actually had the time to. Now that I’m doing a lot more training, I check out the Internet for some new moves to practice. Then I thought, why not post everything I see in one central place? So this is where I finally decided to create a blog where I can post videos, book reviews, gear reviews and anything else that comes up.

So it took me forever to decide on a domain name and since a lot of the .com’s are taken, deciding was not getting any easier. I checked out a Thesaurus site to look for some words I might like. Even though mma is getting really big, I did not want to use that term, I wanted something with ‘Fight’. So then I came across ‘Tactics’ and looked it up at Merriam Webster and got:

1 : a device for accomplishing an end
2 : a method of employing forces in combat
3: of, relating to, or having (such) an arrangement or pattern
4 : showing orientation or movement directed by a (specified) force or agent

So all, especially the first one was exactly what I was thinking of. I look for moves to accomplish an end which can be in sparring, fighting or competing.

Well for a little bit about myself. I actually got into doing Mauy Thai in 2001. At first I actually wanted to do Kick Boxing and had no clue what the difference was between the two. So while I was working out at a gym, their was a Mauy Thai class going on and got hooked right away. So the next day I joined and naturally fell into Jiu Jitsu since they also offered it. I actually do it has a hobby and only over the winter since I have other things that get in the way once summer arrive.

Well I hope you guys enjoy the upcoming posts, happy training!
